Environmental Physiology of Fish

【课程简介】

This seminar course will present examples of recent advancement in environmental physiology of fishes.  After a brief introduction to the multidisciplinary field of environmental physiology, lectures and discussions will be focused on recent studies on how fish interact with their environment, including acquiring information through various sensory systems, processing of the information, and responses through endocrine and other systems.  Students will be encouraged to engage in the classroom discussion.

【专家简况】

Weiming Li obtained his BA and MS degrees from Shanghai Fisheries University, and his Ph. D from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities).  After postdoctoral training in the Monell Chemical Senses Center, he joined the faculty of Michigan State University, where he is currently FEJ Fry Chair in Environmental Physiology and a professor appointed in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Department of Physiology and Program in Neuroscience.  He is also an adjunct professor in Shanghai Ocean University.  His primary research goal is to develop a better understanding of origin of vertebrate animals and evolution of vertebrate genes and regulatory complexity.  Using sea lamprey as a model, his currently research is focused on pheromone communication, endocrine systems, genomics and control of invasive species.
